I have done a lot of work in my schooling about Privilege and Race, but this discussion with Dr. Watts offered a wealth of knowledge and resources. I often feel lost and unsure about what my role can be as a white ally, and this session gave me direction and empowered me to be a more active, brave ally. I wish I could have Dr. Watts speak to every class on every campus.

I was reminded of the different kinds of privilege and my own privilege (such as access to resources). The learning tools utilized were also useful.

Dr. Watts is a great motivational speaker and role model. She explains concepts in easy-to-understand language which keeps us engaged in conversation and thought!

Kay

Student

I am now even more committed to continue the work with our Tough Conversations group on campus. I’m also more aware of how I should use the power of my role to help students.

Marie

Employee, Lake Superior College

The many examples and discussion topics provided help bring to light the many issues of privilege and race. The session was fabulous!

As a result of this training, it helped me to think about my role as an ally and really work on being more intentional and action-oriented than passive. I understand that inaction is not OK and if I don’t act then I am contributing to the problem and continuing to reinforce the status quo. I also loved the term “Injustice Disrupter”

I think many of us are committed professionals and want to do everything we can but I feel insecure about whether I’m doing it right, or what I should be doing. So my aha was that feeling insecure isn’t an excuse to not do the work.
